Game Pass subscribers have just received a massive retro gaming boost. Xbox has added over 50 classic Activision games to its library through a new app called Retro Classics, playable across Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and via cloud streaming.
The announcement came on May 21, confirming that all Game Pass members—including Core subscribers—can access these titles, except those in Japan. The app, powered by Antstream Arcade’s streaming technology, offers instant gameplay for a varie4ty of retro titles without the need for downloads.
Features And Future Plans For Retro Classics
The Retro Classics app includes multiplayer support, weekly tournaments, leaderboards, and even Xbox achievements—meaning players can now earn rewards for completing challenges in games like River Raid and Pitfall.
Xbox stated that this initiative is part of its commitment to game preservation and backward compatibility, ensuring classic titles remain playable on modern hardware. The company also confirmed plans to expand the library with more Activision and Blizzard games in the future.
A Selection Of Iconic Games Now Available
Among the titles now accessible are:
- Kaboom!
- Pitfall and Pitfall 2
- River Raid
- MechWarrior 2

While some players may prefer downloadable versions for offline play, the streaming-based approach ensures quick access to these nostalgic experiences.
