World of Warcraft’s Housing Feature Launches as Horde Players Eagerly Transform Their Spiky Huts

The much-anticipated housing feature in World of Warcraft has finally arrived for those who secured an early purchase of the upcoming Midnight expansion. While it’s still in its infancy, players are already engrossed in building intricate homes using the available decor. However, Horde players face a unique challenge: their house exteriors are drawing criticism for being less than appealing.

Challenges with Horde Housing Aesthetics

For those who find beauty in orc aesthetics, complete with spikes, flames, and an array of haphazard metal and wood, the Horde exteriors might be acceptable. Yet, many players within the Horde, especially those preferring a different style, find the grunge-like appearance undesirable. Alliance players, although limited to one exterior design, have cottages that are more universally accepted.

Until the complete launch of Midnight, the customization options remain limited to roof colors and chimney styles within the default faction look. Blizzard has assured players that Night Elf and Blood Elf exteriors will be available with Midnight’s release, alongside plans for more choices later. For now, players must make do with the current options.

Some have embraced this limitation by enhancing their exteriors with creative outdoor decorations. My humble retreat hides a cozy Shaman sanctuary, complete with a magical library and a kitchen.

Creativity Amidst Limitations

Despite facing aesthetic hurdles, players have shown their ingenuity by masking the orcish features of their homes with various decor items. The precise decoration tools allow ignoring collision, leading to innovative transformations such as turning huts into cozy caves or adopting a Blood Elf style. Even though players are successfully transforming their homes, the exterior decor limit poses a challenge. Covering orcish structures with large objects consumes a significant decor limit, leaving little room for additional yard enhancements. Many are advocating for an increased decor cap, an issue recognized by Blizzard.

Creativity shines through these constraints, showcasing the lengths players will go even with limited resources. The housing features are in early access, and as such, some functionalities are inherently limited. The excitement builds as players anticipate what they can create once they have more decor freedom.

Looking Forward to Midnight

The World of Warcraft: Midnight expansion is set to launch on March 2, 2026. Those eager to explore the housing system sooner can do so by pre-ordering any version of the expansion. Insights from the game’s developers reveal promising prospects for the housing feature, with more options expected to enhance the gameplay experience.

Pre-ordering grants early access, allowing players to dive into housing before the full release. The ongoing development promises to address current limitations, paving the way for a more enriched in-game housing adventure.
