Ubisoft Expands Its Portfolio with Amazon’s MOBA March of Giants Acquisition

Ubisoft is set to expand its gaming portfolio with the acquisition of the MOBA game March of Giants from Amazon. The deal, expected to conclude on December 16, 2025, will see the Montreal-based team joining Ubisoft. Despite the change in ownership, Amazon will continue to support the game through marketing efforts on Twitch. This strategic move aims to bolster Ubisoft’s presence in the competitive gaming arena.

An Exciting New Chapter for March of Giants

Ubisoft has expressed their enthusiasm for March of Giants, describing it as an innovative project that promises to engage current MOBA fans while attracting new audiences. The game will be led by creative director Xavier Marquis and senior production leader Alexandre Parizeau, both of whom have a history with Ubisoft. Marquis is renowned for his work on Rainbow Six Siege, while Parizeau previously managed Ubisoft Toronto studio.

Marquis commented on the reunion, stating, “Returning to Ubisoft brings things full circle. We’re excited to continue developing March of Giants from within Ubisoft. This game has enormous potential, and I know Ubisoft can help us take it to the next level.”

Amazon’s Strategic Shift in the Gaming Landscape

Parizeau expressed gratitude towards Amazon for their initial support, noting that the closed alpha revealed the game’s promising future. Steve Boom from Amazon highlighted pride in what the team has accomplished and confidence in Ubisoft’s ability to further develop the game. This acquisition comes amid significant changes at Amazon, including layoffs that affected Amazon Game Studios and led to the cancellation of projects like New World: Aeternum and an MMO based on Lord of the Rings.

Ubisoft’s Vision for the Future

Amazon’s recent focus on well-established IPs and adaptations, such as Tomb Raider and TV series like Fallout, Wolfenstein, and Mass Effect, appears to reflect its strategic direction in gaming. Meanwhile, Ubisoft views the acquisition as a significant win. Yves Guillemot, Ubisoft’s CEO, remarked, “March of Giants has a real opportunity to bring something fresh and dynamic to players and help Ubisoft compete in one of gaming’s biggest arenas.”

Ubisoft announced it has acquired the MOBA game March of Giants from Amazon, with the Montreal-based team becoming a part of Ubisoft when the deal closes on its expected date of December 16, 2025.
