Ubisoft has issued a new statement regarding the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake, confirming that the project is very much still alive. Originally shown in 2020 with a supposed 2021 release, it has been delayed several times, including restarting development completely. After moving production from its original Pune and Mumbai studios, the remake is now being managed by Ubisoft Montreal.
Although big events like PlayStation State of Play, Xbox Games Showcase, and Summer Game Fest didn’t hold anything for the game this June, Ubisoft public reassures its case. The video game team said development work is “well advanced,” but unspecified work will happen before an eventual 2026 release.
Ubisoft Thanks Fans and Promotes Another Prince
Ubisoft has responded on the official Prince of Persia social media channel on the ongoing wait. The studio showed how sincerely developers are working on the new game and thanked the fans for their continuous support and patience.
Simultaneously, the publisher invited fans to unravel The Rogue Prince of Persia, a side-project developed by Evil Empire – the studio behind Dead Cells. The game is now in early access, a full launch should occur somewhere in August. According to Ubisoft, it is a new and lively adventure that promises plenty of thrills while the main remake continues its winding road to completion.
A Look at the Franchise’s Recent Past
Ubisoft might have been focusing its messaging on Sands of Time and The Rogue Prince, but there’s another recent chapter worth mentioning — Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. After being released in 2024 and having a Metroidvania-style structure, it received a positive critical response but didn’t sell well. Ubisoft shut down the team behind it, putting more entries in that area on indefinite hold.
Broader Delays Across Ubisoft Projects
The French publisher is now in a quiet period without many releases. After the March release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, a new expansion, Claws of Awaji, is due later in 2025. Elsewhere, fans of Ubisoft’s flagship franchises, such as Far Cry, will likely be waiting even longer. As part of an internal strategy to allow for more development time, a number of key titles have been delayed with a hefty €1.16 billion investment from Tencent.
As Ubisoft reviews its timetable, the firm is hoping the delays will lead to higher-quality titles — including that unreleased Sands of Times remake.
