Tim Cain, famously known as one of the masterminds behind the original Fallout game, has made a remarkable return to Xbox studio Obsidian Entertainment. His comeback is tied to a secret project that has fans buzzing with anticipation.
In a video released on his YouTube channel, Cain shared his transition to a full-time position at Obsidian, known for their recent releases like The Outer Worlds 2, Grounded 2, and Avowed. Until now, Cain had been contributing as a contractor, but this shift marks a new chapter in his career. While Cain teased about a future game bearing his signature, he remains tight-lipped about any details.
The Mystery Project
Cain has chosen to keep the nature of Obsidian’s latest endeavor under wraps, advising fans to refrain from speculating. “I also can’t talk about the project I’m working on at Obsidian, just because that’s covered under NDA,” he stated during the video. “Don’t bother guessing. You’re not going to guess right. I would say that I’m probably a lot less retired now than I was before, so that whole video I have on being semi-retired, I guess I’m not.”
Previously, Cain was a full-time employee with Obsidian, contributing to titles like Pillars of Eternity and The Outer Worlds. After moving to a contractor role, he worked on The Outer Worlds 2. While Obsidian has not announced their upcoming project, developers have acknowledged the curiosity surrounding a potential Fallout: New Vegas 2, though they remain focused on creating and expanding new intellectual properties.
Speculations and Future Plans
Excitement continues to build as Fallout Season 2 is set to debut on Prime Video this December. Amidst the buzz, Bethesda is releasing a new Fallout: New Vegas bundle, though there’s no confirmation of a remaster or sequel to capitalize on the renewed interest. With fans eager for a continuation, curiosity surrounds whether Obsidian will revisit the beloved 2010 RPG, especially since Bethesda’s parent company, Microsoft, now owns them.
Obsidian has been prolific in developing original titles, having launched games like Grounded, Avowed, and The Outer Worlds. Their recent offerings include The Outer Worlds 2 and Grounded 2, with Pentiment being another unique release from last year, though a sequel seems unlikely soon.
Last month, reports revealed that the Fallout 3 remaster, which leaked in 2023, is still in development. In light of a recent interview with Bethesda’s Todd Howard, where he mentioned other projects in the Fallout franchise, sources noted a remaster akin to this year’s The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered could be on the horizon.
Rumors swirl about possible Fallout remakes, and fans hold on to the hope that Bethesda will revisit classic Fallout games while they await The Elder Scrolls 6.
