The highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI faces another setback, with its release now postponed to November 19, 2026. Despite this being the second delay since its original release window was announced, Take-Two’s CEO Strauss Zelnick remains optimistic that this will be the final postponement.
Reasons Behind the Delay
In a recent conversation, Zelnick expressed the company’s dedication to ensuring a polished final product. He emphasized, “We wanted to give Rockstar the appropriate amount of time to polish the title and make sure it can be the very best it can be.” Initially slated for a fall 2025 release, the game was later pushed to May 2026 for similar reasons.
When asked about the likelihood of further delays, Zelnick confidently stated, “I’m highly confident,” reaffirming their commitment to the new date. He noted that competitors often rush releases to their detriment, whereas Take-Two prefers to ensure their games are spectacular.
Take-Two’s Recent Performance
Take-Two recently announced a record-breaking second quarter with net bookings of $1.96 billion, fueled by the success of NBA 2K26, Mafia: The Old Country, and Borderlands 4. Meanwhile, the ever-popular GTA V continues its impressive run, now surpassing 220 million units sold globally.
Controversy and Protests
The company recently faced controversy as numerous employees were dismissed for allegedly leaking confidential information. However, the affected staff argue the real reason was their discussions on unionization, leading to protests outside Rockstar North and UK offices. The protests highlight ongoing tensions between the company and its workforce regarding labor rights and organizational practices.
