Switch 2 Games to Offer USB Mouse Support

In an interesting development for Nintendo’s upcoming console, select Switch 2 games will allow players to connect a USB mouse for gameplay. This feature was demonstrated during a recent gameplay stream for Nobunaga’s Ambition: Awakening CE, making it the first known title to utilise this functionality.

A New Way to Play

When the Switch 2 was first revealed, one of its standout features was the ability to flip a Joy-Con sideways and use it as a mouse—a clever innovation aimed at improving gameplay for strategy and role-playing titles. Early hands-on impressions noted that this method works well, provided players have a stable surface and comfortable setup. However, for those who prefer traditional peripherals, the option to plug in a USB mouse will be available in certain games.

Hands-On Demonstration

During a gameplay showcase on May 22, Koei Tecmo’s producer Michi Ryu connected a USB mouse to the Switch 2 while playing Nobunaga’s Ambition: Awakening CE. Ryu explained that once the mouse is connected, a notification appears in the top-left corner of the screen, confirming the input device is active. The mouse takes priority over the Joy-Con controls, but players can seamlessly switch between the two at any time.

Expanding Control Options

While this feature has only been confirmed for one title so far, it raises questions about whether the Switch 2 will also support USB keyboards. If so, Nintendo’s new console could become an even stronger competitor to handheld PCs like the Steam Deck. The added flexibility in control schemes ensures that players can choose the input method that suits them best.

The Switch 2 launches on June 5, and with features like USB mouse support, it continues to shape up as a versatile gaming platform.
