The gaming world is abuzz with the massive success of Shift Up’s action-RPG, Stellar Blade. Initially making waves on the PlayStation, its arrival on PC has been nothing short of a triumph.
Sources reveal that Stellar Blade’s PC edition sold over 1 million copies within just three days of release. The game has reached a combined sales total of 3 million across PS5 and PC, with 98% of PC players giving it high praise for an “overwhelmingly positive” score on Steam.
Stellar Blade’s Record-Breaking Performance
Stellar Blade has set a new benchmark as the “best-selling PlayStation-exclusive launch IP in history” on PC, outshining giants like Ghost of Tsushima, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Horizon Zero Dawn, and The Last of Us in terms of peak concurrent users on Steam. While Stellar Blade shines, Helldivers 2 holds the crown across both single and multiplayer games, boasting an impressive 12.7 million copies sold.
Having launched in June, the PC version offers features tailored for enthusiasts, including AI upscaling with Nvidia DLSS 4 and AMD FSR 3, a smooth unlocked framerate, multi-language voiceovers, ultrawide display adaptations, enhanced textures, and DualSense support.
Sony’s Profitable Venture
Despite Stellar Blade’s success, a new analysis suggests that Sony’s $1.5 billion earnings from Steam may be slowing as sequel sales like Horizon Forbidden West and God of War: Ragnarök cool off. Analysts note, “the novelty is wearing off,” as most of Sony’s top franchises are now available on PC.
Rhys Elliott, an analyst, notes, “All of Sony’s major franchises have already landed on PC. The audience that was once excited to experience these games for the first time has largely been served.” For instance, God of War roared past its sequel on Steam, selling 2.5 million copies in 427 days—over twice as many as Ragnarök in the same period.
Valve has also reaped rewards, earning an estimated $350 million from its 30% cut on Steam game purchases.
Looking Ahead for Stellar Blade
Stellar Blade continues to make headlines, with a sequel in the works, promising to build on its action-packed legacy. While the game scored a 7/10 in reviews, praising its core gameplay but critiquing its narrative and RPG elements, anticipation for what’s next is palpable.
