When Stellar Blade made its way to PC on June 11, it quickly became Sony’s highest-grossing single-player Steam game. In a single day after release, the action title hit nearly 1,05,000 concurrent players. The number revised many times during reporting due to the impressive growth of the game. With the weekend nearing more player count is expected to increase even more.
Outperforming Major Sony Titles
Stellar Blade has outsold some of Sony’s biggest titles based on these numbers. Peak player for Ghost of Tsushima sat at 77,154 players while God of War at touched 73,529 and Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered 66,436. Stellar Blade has more players than any other single-player game on Steam that is published by Sony, other than Helldivers 2. Helldivers 2 is a multiplayer game, so it doesn’t count.
PC Version Enhancements and Modding Community
The PC version comes with various enhancements as against the console version. Players can take advantage of AI upscaling with Nvidia DLSS 4 and AMD FSR 3, an unlimited framerate, ultrawide monitor support, and better quality environment textures. The haptic feedback and trigger effects of the DualSense controller are now usable.
In addition, the game will have localized Japanese and Chinese voiceovers to entice international users. At first, the game was limited to PC only in more than 100 countries. However, it is now accessible in more than 250 regions.
The people who mod video games love this one. Modders released plenty of changes and improvements since the demo dropped a few weeks ago. These are things that improve the quality of life and more experimental – some unsuitable for everyone.
Stellar Blade’s makers, Shift Up has confirmed that they are already working on a sequel for the game following its success. The game in question was released in April 2024 and was praised for its gameplay that resembled NieR: Automata and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
Gameplay Praised, Though Narrative Draws Criticism
While the game has received largely good reviews, not everything about it has been well-received. Reviewers noted Stellar Blade has well-developed action mechanics but poorly developed lead characters and overall plot. There are frustrating aspects with the RPG system that prevented the game from being genre-defining despite the strength of its core.
Despite the game’s remarkable performance at Steam, a sequel confirmed, and a global player-base that is pretty active, Stellar Blade has definitely become a significant milestone for Sony’s single player PC catalog.
