Sony Unveils 27-Inch PlayStation Monitor With VRR Support and DualSense Charging Hook

Sony is set to make waves in the gaming world with the introduction of its 27-inch PlayStation-branded gaming monitor, aimed at enhancing the gaming experience for users in the U.S. and Japan. This new monitor promises cutting-edge features tailored for avid gamers.

Unveiled during today’s State of Play Japan event, the announcement highlighted the monitor’s ability to deliver “vivid visuals at QHD with high refresh rates and VRR support.” While pricing details remain under wraps, excitement is building for this new addition to the PlayStation hardware lineup.

“We’re thrilled to reveal a new gaming monitor launching in Japan and the US,” stated Hideaki Nishino, President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment. “It boasts vibrant visuals and includes a built-in charging hook for the DualSense wireless controller.”

The monitor supports a 240 Hz refresh rate and is compatible with PCs. However, when connected to a PS5 console, it supports up to 120 Hz. It’s important to note that “design and specifications are subject to change” as per the official statement.

Through a post on the PlayStation Blog, Shuzo Kikuchi, VP of Product Management at Sony Interactive Entertainment, emphasized that this new monitor is “built for desktop gaming with a PS5.” Kikuchi also detailed its standout features.

Impressive Features of the PlayStation 27” Gaming Monitor

  • Quad High Definition (QHD) IPS display offering a resolution of up to 2560 x 1440, perfect for comfortable gaming from a desk setup.
  • High Dynamic Range support with Auto HDR Tone Mapping, which optimizes HDR settings for PS5 and PS5 Pro consoles, ensuring a vibrant picture quality.
  • VRR support and refresh rates up to 120 Hz for PS5 consoles and up to 240 Hz on compatible PC and Mac devices.
  • A built-in Charging Hook for the DualSense or DualSense Edge wireless controller (sold separately), facilitating seamless gaming sessions.

Kikuchi elaborated on the monitor’s versatile support for VESA mounting and its comprehensive audio and connectivity options, including USB ports for the PlayStation Link adapter:

  • Two HDMI IN ports (ver 2.1) and one DisplayPort IN port (ver 1.4) ensure compatibility with PS5, PC, Mac, and more
    • HDMI IN (ver 2.1) supports up to 2560×1440, 240Hz, FRL, VRR; DisplayPort IN (ver 1.4) supports up to 2560×1440, 240Hz, DSC
  • Two USB Type-A and one USB Type-C port for use with PlayStation Link Adapters or other devices
  • Integrated stereo speakers and a 3.5mm audio output
  • Compatibility with select VESA mounting systems for flexible display setups

Launching in 2026, the PlayStation 27” Gaming Monitor with DualSense Charging Hook will be available in the U.S. and Japan, with further release details anticipated soon. Pricing remains a mystery for now.

In the same broadcast, Sony also announced a Japan-exclusive PS5 Digital Edition to be offered at a more competitive price, echoing Nintendo’s recent launch of a region-locked Switch 2 model, also priced affordably for the Japanese market.

This monitor marks another milestone in Sony’s extensive lineup of PlayStation-branded accessories, following the introduction of wireless gaming speakers for PS5 and PC in September, which also connect to the PlayStation Portal or smartphones.
