On 2025’s Xbox Games Showcase from Microsoft, Hollow Knight: Silksong appeared briefly. After it created confusion about its release. After being exhibited alongside the recently announced ROG Ally X handheld, many believe the game will also be made available as a launch title.
Sarah Bond, who is the Xbox president, said that Silksong would be “available at launch and in Game Pass when Ally launches later this year”. As that year launch was supposed around festive end-of-year, many gamers assumed that Silksong would be a part of this. Sorry but that is not the case.
However, the developers have now clarified the situation.
Team Cherry Confirms Independent Release Timing
In response to the confusion on the game’s official Discord server, marketing manager Matthew ‘Leth’ Griffin explained that the release of the game is not linked to the ROG Ally X. Silksong will be “available before the holidays” and is not tied to the launch of another console or handheld.
According to Griffin, he further asserted that the holiday in question is certainly Christmas which clears up the timeline.
Possible September Launch?
Fans are wondering just how early the game could be thanks to the announcement. An interesting clue is the Silksong demo, which will be playable by the public at Australia’s national museum of screen culture in Melbourne from September 18, leading some to believe that it is nearly finished and could launch sometime around then.
Xbox Showcase Leaves Fans Wanting More
Many were hoping for a hard date during the showcase but no confirmation was given. Recently a tweet referenced Xbox’s surprise releases, based on some updates to Starfield’s Steam page, courtesy of Brad Sams. The updates sparked hopes of an imminent launch.
Shadow drop spotlight was instead given to Final Fantasy 16, as fans of Silksong have to wait a while longer. Yet with Christmas six months away, the finishing line finally seems to be in sight.
