Leon S. Kennedy fans have reason to celebrate as the beloved character is set to share the spotlight in the upcoming Resident Evil: Requiem. Recent reports confirm that players will enjoy ample time playing as Leon, a fact sure to excite his followers.
In an interview with Automaton, director Akifumi Nakanishi shared insights into the game’s dual narrative, spotlighting both Leon and Grace Ashcroft.
Dual Protagonist Dynamic
Nakanishi explained that in terms of gameplay, Grace and Leon will each have nearly equal screen time. This structure mirrors the format of Resident Evil: Revelations, where Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine took center stage. “It’s almost like having two games with completely different types of tension mixed together,” Nakanishi elaborated, highlighting the unique rhythm that emerges from alternating perspectives.
Playing as Leon offers a sense of “release” following the intense horror experienced through Grace’s eyes. However, Leon’s sections won’t be a walk in the park, as he faces his own challenges while protecting others. Fans are left wondering about his fate in the gripping storyline.
Leon’s Evolving Persona
Nakanishi noted, “The battle this time will probably push Leon to his limits more than ever before, and this is a crucial part of the experience.” Leon’s self-sacrificing nature and inner passion are emphasized, along with his dry wit and subtle sarcasm. Capcom aims to satisfy his fan base by portraying him as a “handsome” and “cool” character, both in appearance and personality.
The recently released trailer features Leon behind the wheel of a custom-built Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT, courtesy of an official licensing agreement with the car manufacturer. Nakanishi mentioned, “Although he’s a character who carries a lot on his shoulders, we took a lot of care in refining him to be an ‘ikeoji’ (a cool/attractive older guy).”
Lingering Mysteries
Despite the confirmed focus on Leon, Resident Evil: Requiem might still hold some surprises. Speculation about a potential third playable character persists, fueled by a recent GameStop listing that mentions Rosemary Winters. Gamers eagerly await further revelations from The Game Awards 2025, where new details and a full winners list have been released.
