100 Thieves’ Championship Dreams Dashed
After ENVY knocked them down to the Lower Bracket Finals, 100 Thieves were looking for a chance to redeem themselves to reach the Grand Finals. Sadly, their ambitions were dashed as they suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Rad EU.
The team which finished third overall is the runners-up of the Americas Stage 1 and won R1,140,000 (approximately $60,000). Though the scoreline seemed to suggest a simpler game for Rad EU, every map was fiercely fought.
Rad EU captured Celestial Husk with a 2-1 score followed by another 2-1 win on Central Park. The last map Yggdrasill Path saw 100 Thieves put up their strongest fight but eventually lose 2-3 to EMEA Stage 1 r/s. This win saw Rad EU safely through the Grand Finals showmatch against ENVY, setting up a surprise finale between two Play-In stage qualifiers.
Rad EU’s Championship-Winning Performance
Both finalists put together remarkable runs in the tournament where they beat some prominent regional champions such as Sentinels and Citadel Gaming to reach the best-of-seven Grand Finals. The championship series started strongly for Rad EU with a 2-0 triumph on Celestial Husk. With a tight score of 4-3, ENVY were able to win map two on Yggdrasill Path. Rad EU has got back momentum with two straight wins. First, they won 3-2 on Hall of Djalia and then 2-1 on Hell’s Heaven.
ENVY showed their strength on Central Park with a 3-2 win but lost to Rad EU 2-1 on Spider-Islands and therefore gave them the championship with a 4-2 finale series. Rad EU struck gold at the first major int. LAN event of MARVEL RIVALS! As the champs, they head back home with a whopping R3,040,000 (~$160,000) and become the game’s first world champs!
