PlayStation Fans Can Experience Banjo-Kazooie: Mumbomania Through Dreams

Exciting news for Banjo-Kazooie enthusiasts! Although Xbox isn’t crafting a new adventure for the beloved bear and bird duo, a fresh game experience has landed on PS4 and PS5 through the creative platform Dreams.

Banjo-Kazooie: Mumbomania is a stunning platformer that captures the essence of its iconic predecessors, showcasing a level of quality that might just make Rare proud.

A Classic Experience Reimagined

This week, social media buzzed with a trailer unveiling gameplay reminiscent of the classic Banjo-Kazooie style. Players can dive into an adventure where Banjo leaps, glides, rolls, and is catapulted from a cannon, all while collecting treasures and exploring vibrant landscapes.

The game impresses further with a variety of transformations, turning Banjo into everything from a massive rock golem to a cutlass-wielding pirate.

The Series’ Legacy

First debuting on N64 in the late ’90s, Banjo-Kazooie made its way to Xbox 360 in 2008 following Microsoft’s acquisition of Rare. Despite its dedicated fanbase, the series has not seen a new installment in 17 years, with the last title, Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts, also hitting Xbox 360 in 2008.

Fans have persistently called for a new game, but Xbox has not hinted at any developments. Meanwhile, Rare appears focused on expanding Sea of Thieves.

“You’ve seen from our history that we haven’t touched every franchise that people would love us to touch — Banjo fans, I hear you,” said Microsoft’s gaming chief Phil Spencer in 2023. “But it is true that, when we find the right team, and the right opportunity, I love going back to revisit stories and characters that we’ve seen previously.”

Banjo and Kazooie’s Enduring Appeal

Aside from their presence in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Banjo and Kazooie have largely been absent from the gaming scene. Yet, fans have found solace in the spiritual successor Yooka-Laylee, created by former Banjo-Kazooie developers. This game recently enjoyed a polished re-release titled Yooka-Laylee: Replayee, launched in October of this year.

Banjo-Kazooie: Mumbomania is now available on Dreams for PS4 and PS5, offering fans a new way to enjoy the classic platforming action.
