Nintendo has rolled out a brand-new system software update for both the Switch and the Switch 2, advancing their firmware to Version 21.0.1. This update comes on the heels of a major update that arrived just a couple of weeks ago, which drew widespread criticism for causing issues with third-party Switch 2 docks. Despite the backlash, Nintendo assured users they had no intention of obstructing legal third-party dock compatibility.
New Update Details and Fixes
The latest patch is just beginning to make its way to users, and there’s a plethora of third-party dock options available for testing. Thus far, there haven’t been any immediate reports from users suggesting that this update has affected third-party dock compatibility either positively or negatively. However, further observations will be needed to provide a definitive answer. Nintendo has confirmed that the update includes a fix for an error affecting the Switch’s system transfer feature, as well as resolving a prevalent Bluetooth issue that prevented wireless devices from connecting.
According to Nintendo’s patch notes, the update addresses specific error codes (2011-0301 or 2168-0002) that occurred during system transfers between the Switch and the Switch 2, and enhances general system stability for a smoother user experience.
Impressive Sales and Future Game Releases
Earlier in the month, Nintendo announced the remarkable success of the Switch 2, which sold 10.36 million units between June 5 and September 30. This figure doubles the launch sales of the original Switch, solidifying its status as the most successful console launch ever.
The flagship launch title, Mario Kart World, has seen impressive sales of 9.57 million copies, while Donkey Kong Bananza has achieved 3.49 million sales since July. Meanwhile, Pokémon Legends Z-A sold an astounding 5.8 million copies during its first week on the market.
Fans are eagerly anticipating the release of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, set to launch on December 4. Although early previews have criticized the game’s initial NPC, the full experience remains highly anticipated.
