The gaming community is buzzing with the latest development from Nintendo. Just six months after the highly anticipated launch of the Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle, production of this eye-catching package has come to an end.
Back in April, Nintendo delighted fans by offering the Switch 2, priced at $449.99, with the Mario Kart World game, usually $80, for a bundled price of $499.99. This deal effectively allowed gamers to snag the popular launch title at $30 off its standalone price, fueling impressive sales figures for both the game and the console.
Nintendo’s Strategic Move
As news spread over the weekend, Game Stop, a major U.S. retailer, confirmed that the Mario Kart World Switch 2 bundle will no longer be produced. This announcement came via a social media post following a leaked memo to GameStop staff about the production halt. “This bundle SKU has now reached end of lifecycle, and additional units will no longer be produced,” the memo stated, emphasizing that future shipments would focus on the base model of the Switch 2.
Nintendo today confirmed the halt in a social media post, stating: “Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World Bundle is available in limited quantities at participating retailers, while supplies last.”
Availability and Market Response
Though the bundle was always marketed as a limited-time offer, Nintendo’s decision to cease production is noteworthy. Despite this, with many units still available at various retailers, enthusiasts have a chance to join the Switch 2 experience before the stocks run out. Best Buy, for instance, currently offers the Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle for $449.99, essentially giving Mario Kart World at no additional cost.
Interestingly, Nintendo has maintained the Switch 2’s price while competitors like Microsoft and Sony have adjusted theirs. Though Nintendo increased the price of the original Switch in August 2025, it hinted at possible future price changes for Switch 2 accessories and games.
Record-Breaking Sales
Since its debut, the Nintendo Switch 2 has shattered records, selling a jaw-dropping 10.36 million units between June 5 and September 30. This remarkable achievement solidifies its position as the most successful console launch to date. Buoyed by these numbers, Nintendo has upped its hardware forecast for the year, now projecting sales of 19 million units by the end of March 2026.
Mario Kart World, the standout game for the Switch 2, has also achieved impressive sales figures, with 9.57 million copies sold, 8.1 million of which were through the bundled offering. This means over a million players opted to pay the full $80 for the game separately.
