Ninjas in Pyjamas Rallies for Cache’s Return to CS2

Ninjas in Pyjamas (NiP) has launched a petition calling on Valve to bring the beloved Cache map back into Counter-Strike 2 (CS2). The iconic map has been absent from the Active Duty pool since 2019, despite its creator completing an updated version. After six years on the sidelines, players and organisations alike are advocating for its comeback.

The Petition Movement

The Swedish esports organisation published a light-hearted open letter to Valve, accompanied by a petition that has quickly gained support from the Counter-Strike community. In their social media appeal, NiP highlighted that Cache occupies a distinctive place in Counter-Strike culture globally, offering a unique combination of strategic depth, competitive gameplay, and thrilling action.

The organisation playfully suggested that the map’s return would not only attract countless players back to CS2 but would also provide relief to those tired of repeatedly queuing for Mirage matches. While the petition maintains a humorous tone, the underlying desire for Cache’s reintroduction has been a consistent theme throughout the community this year. Despite Valve’s July decision to swap Anubis with Overpass to refresh the Active Duty pool, players continue to advocate for Mirage to make way for Cache.

Cache’s Legacy in Counter-Strike

Since CS2’s September 2023 release, Cache has been noticeably absent from tournaments due to its exclusion from the Active Duty map pool. The map has been the stage for numerous legendary esports moments, most notably Oleksandr ‘S1mple’ Kostyliev’s incredible 1v2 no-scope clutch against Fnatic during ESL One Cologne 2016.

Despite persistent requests from the community for Cache’s return to competitive play, Valve has yet to indicate whether the map will make its way back into the official rotation.
