Recent updates have brought unexpected challenges for MSI motherboard users. The rollout of the AGESA BIOS v1.2.8.0, intended to enhance memory compatibility, has instead led to significant issues for certain models. Users of the MSI X870E motherboards are particularly affected, as the update has reportedly caused system stability problems.
Unexpected Issues with AGESA BIOS v1.2.8.0
Manufacturers recently began deploying the AGESA BIOS 1.2.7.0, which integrates support for Krackan Point and Strix Point APUs on the AM5 platform. While MSI and ASUS initially adopted version 1.2.7.0, MSI quickly moved forward with the release of AGESA BIOS 1.2.8.0 for select 800-series motherboards, including the X870E and B850 chipsets.

Unfortunately, the new BIOS version has led to severe issues, leaving some users unable to access even the BIOS screen. The community-maintained AGESA BIOS sheet reveals that the 1.2.8.0 version is currently available for limited models: the MPG X870E Edge Ti WiFi, MPG X870E Carbon WiFi, and MAG B850M Mortar. Despite promises of enhanced memory compatibility, users have experienced critical failures during installation.

Community Reactions and Advice
One user reported that his system became unstable after installing the update on an X870E Carbon WiFi motherboard, which prevented access to the BIOS screen and operating system. It highlights a significant stability issue with the update. Users are advised to avoid upgrading until stability is confirmed.

Given the challenges, waiting a few weeks before attempting a BIOS upgrade is prudent. Even ASUS has replaced its earlier BIOS 1804 version due to similar concerns. There is also talk of an AGESA 1.2.7.1 version available in Beta on some ASRock models. Both manufacturers and users are urged to proceed with caution until further updates ensure stability.
ASRock’s decision to skip directly to AGESA 1.2.8.0 suggests possible issues with version 1.2.7.0. Owners of 800-series AM5 motherboards should wait for stable releases before updating.
