Dragon Egg Hatching Process
If you plan to hatch the dragon egg right in The End, you don’t have to retrieve it. The egg will behave properly in its current place, and it isn’t needed to respawn the Ender Dragon.
To hatch your dragon egg and summon a new Ender Dragon, you need to have or craft a total of four end crystals and bring them to The End. Surround the Dragon Egg pedestal crystals on each side of the portal. By doing so, we will cause the obsidian pillars in End to reignite, and the Ender Dragon will come back. You don’t need to destroy the dragon egg every time to resurrect a dragon so you can keep it as a trophy.
In overworld, it isn’t possible to hatch a dragon egg in vanilla Minecraft. You must install modification packages to enable this functionality. You can only hatch dragon eggs via the end crystal ritual mentioned above in the base game only.
