For fans eagerly anticipating Metroid Prime 4, diving back into the Metroid Prime trilogy might be on your to-do list. However, Nintendo has not made this an easy task. The legendary producer of the series, Kensuke Tanabe, also believes that this is an issue worth addressing.
Hints of a Metroid Prime 2: Echoes Remake
In “Metroid Prime 1-3: A Visual Retrospective,” releasing on October 28, 2025, Kensuke Tanabe discusses the potential of a Metroid Prime 2: Echoes remake. He reflects on the game’s multiplayer mode, noting that it was ahead of its time but limited by its local play nature. Tanabe expressed, “If it is remade, I would be delighted for more people to have the chance to experience it.”

The 2023 remake of Metroid Prime for Nintendo Switch, which received critical acclaim, seemed to be a prelude to more remakes, with Metroid Prime 2: Echoes as a likely candidate. While remakes are resource-intensive, the possibility of Echoes being added to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack’s GameCube selection seemed promising. Yet, it remains unavailable there.
Current Accessibility of Metroid Prime Games
Currently, the only way to play Metroid Prime 2: Echoes is with an original GameCube or Wii disc. It’s challenging to access any Prime game outside of Metroid Prime Remastered. The last release of Echoes and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption was on the Metroid Prime Trilogy for Nintendo Wii, which is now a collector’s item. Other titles like Metroid Prime Hunters and Metroid Prime Pinball remain locked to DS carts, while Metroid Prime Federation Force is largely forgotten.
While Tanabe’s insights don’t confirm a Metroid Prime 2: Echoes remake, each passing day brings us closer to Metroid Prime 4. There’s a possibility that GameCube games might appear on Nintendo Switch Online, or we could see a re-release of the Wii’s Metroid Prime Trilogy with updated controls and graphics. Alternatively, remastered versions of Metroid Prime 2 and 3 could be on the horizon. For now, fans can look forward to the art book featuring insights from the creators behind the Metroid series.
