Marvel Rivals is heating up with Season 3 on the horizon. After the Hellfire Gala of Season 2 brought us two new characters, a map, battle pass and lots of skins, NetEase is really speeding things up for what seems like a new chapter filled with action for the Marvel hero shooter.
Release Date and Schedule
According to the countdown in Season 2, Season 3 – which is believed to be called The Abyss Awakens – may release on Friday, 11 July 2025, after server maintenance at 1 am PDT / 4 am EST / 9 am GMT.
Marvel Rivals will begin Season 3 with increased content. Instead of lasting three months, seasons will now last two months, with this mid-season update (or Season 3.5) expected around Friday, 8 August 2025. This implies that all heroes and villain players will receive at least one new hero every month, with one at the season launch and one at the mid-season update. NetEase knows that keeping content fresh is a great way to keep players engaged.
Storyline and Theme
Knull is set to invade Wakanda shortly after the awakening of Blade according to the lore of the game. The season features Venomized costumes for many heroes, whilst the symbiotes take the centre stage following the leaked information.
This storyline fits the dark “Abyss Awakens” subtitle and picks up the various threads planted throughout past seasons in the show.
New Heroes on the Horizon
Based on strong indications and without official confirmation from NetEase, Blade and Phoenix will be the characters to join in Season 3. First teased at launch in the form of gallery cards, Blade was shown waking up in Wakanda at the end of Season 2. Blade’s skills have already leaked, indicating he’s nearing launch.
- Blade Chopper: Use Dracula’s Sword to slash enemies.
- Hunting Gun: Launches explosive fragmentation rounds.
- Damage block means a sword fighting stance which cuts damage from the front.
- Ultimate: Attack relentlessly with your sword!
- Step and Chop is a sprint attack with debuffs.
- Blood Liberation: Activate vampiric abilities to avoid healing but restore health while injuring.
The Phoenix (Jean Grey) has been teased all through Season 2 and leaked before release. Her cosmic powers would fit in with the symbiote theme perfectly, making her a choice for the Season 3.5 update.
Another candidate is Captain Marvel, due to her cosmic connections. However, NetEase may not want to add too many Duelist-class characters at once.
With faster updates and an interesting symbiote trend, players can expect exciting new things for Marvel Rivals Season 3 this July.
