Leon Kennedy’s Fresh Look in Resident Evil Requiem Turns Him Into a ‘Hot Uncle’ Heartthrob for Japanese Fans

The Game Awards thrilled Resident Evil fans with the announcement that Leon S. Kennedy will make a comeback as the second playable character in Resident Evil Requiem. Leon’s older, more mature look has taken Japanese social media by storm, garnering admiration from fans who appreciate his suave transformation.

Resident Evil Requiem: What’s New?

Set to launch across multiple platforms on February 27, 2026, Resident Evil Requiem is the ninth installment in Capcom’s acclaimed survival horror saga. The game introduces Grace Ashcroft, an FBI analyst on a mission to unravel a series of mysterious deaths linked to Victor Gideon, a former Umbrella Corp. researcher. While Grace’s segments focus on survival horror elements, Leon’s gameplay, showcased in the latest trailer below, leans towards action-packed zombie encounters, echoing the style of Resident Evil 4. Director Akifumi Nakanishi has confirmed that Grace’s experience is reminiscent of Resident Evil 2.

Leon’s New Look: A Fan Favorite

Leon’s evolution into a middle-aged hero has been warmly received by Japanese fans, who have given him the nickname ikeoji, meaning “hot uncle.” The internet is abuzz with fan art and comments celebrating his charming aging process. One user quipped, “Leon’s aging in a cool way,” while others likened him to Keanu Reeves.

However, keen-eyed viewers have spotted a mysterious rash on Leon’s neck in the trailer, sparking speculation about a possible infection. While his new look is praised, some express concern over his continued fight against mutants at his age, suggesting, “They should let him rest.” The game’s director hinted at a “major secret” involving Leon that will play a crucial role in the story.

The Dynamic Duo: Grace and Leon

Sources suggest that the gameplay will alternate between Grace’s suspenseful missions and Leon’s high-octane battles, providing a contrasting experience akin to “jumping into a cold bath after a hot sauna.” According to director Akifumi Nakanishi, players will spend nearly equal time with both characters. “Although he’s a character who carries a lot on his shoulders, we took a lot of care in refining him into an ‘ikeoji’,” Nakanishi concluded. “The reactions to the trailer on that front have made us happy (laughs).”
