Tech enthusiasts have long marveled at the potential of rollable displays, and CES 2026 did not disappoint. Lenovo introduced a groundbreaking concept in the gaming world with a laptop equipped with a rollable OLED display that transforms into an ultrawide wonder. This innovative approach could redefine gaming experiences, even though it’s still in the conceptual stage.
While it’s not available for purchase yet, the Lenovo Legion Pro Rollable is designed to feature a high-end Intel Core Ultra processor and the powerful Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card. This robust setup is essential for managing the expanded pixel count when the display maximizes its 24:9 aspect ratio glory. However, potential buyers should be aware that, as a concept, the final product specifications might differ if it ever hits the shelves. Pricing details remain under wraps, but it’s expected to be in the higher price range.
Remember, since this is still just a concept, you shouldn’t anticipate it arriving in stores soon. Specs are likely to evolve if the rollable laptop becomes a reality, and Lenovo hasn’t disclosed any pricing information. However, it is expected to carry a premium price tag.
Stretchy Laptop
In December, Lenovo provided a sneak peek of this concept in New York, showcasing its early development phase. Initially, a command line adjustment was needed to activate the display roll-out, but by CES, this had been improved to a simple key combination. Users can now extend or retract the display smoothly by pressing the Fn button along with the right or left arrow keys, respectively. Even at this stage, the motion is impressively fluid and promises to become even more refined upon release.
The necessary mechanism for the rollable display contributes to the laptop’s substantial weight, estimated at 8 to 10 pounds. As with other aspects, this weight might be reduced in future iterations if the laptop goes into production.
By default, the laptop offers a resolution of 2048 x 1280 with a 16:10 aspect ratio. While this might seem unusual and not particularly impressive by contemporary gaming standards, the true innovation lies in its ability to transform. The display can roll out to either a 21:9 aspect ratio with a resolution of 2986 x 1280 or a 24:9 display at 3413 x 1280.
Regardless of the format, the Legion Pro Rollable remains a FHD laptop, allowing the RTX 5090 graphics to drive high frame rates even in demanding games. Lenovo has coined these expanded display modes as “Tactical Mode” and “Arena Mode” for the 21:9 and 24:9 settings, respectively, seemingly targeting esports enthusiasts.
However, the ultrawide display seems more suited for immersive, story-driven games rather than competitive esports. The expansive view provided by the display can significantly enhance the gaming experience in vast, open-world scenarios, making it a potentially exciting option for gamers who prioritize immersion.
Although I couldn’t test it with actual games, the potential for gaming on this device is tantalizing. Extending and retracting the screen was entertaining, but seeing how it handles real gaming demands will have to wait until Lenovo makes it available for wider testing. Until then, the dream of playing games like The Witcher 3 in the full splendor of a 24:9 ultrawide display remains compelling.
