Le Mans Virtual Series Returns in 2025 After Two-Year Hiatus

After a two-year break, Le Mans virtual series is back. Qualifying rounds of the event are expected to start in Q4 2025. The popular sim racing event will now be hosted on Le Mans Ultimate. It will not take place on rFactor 2 anymore. Motorsport Games, the developer and publisher of Le Mans Ultimate, will turn its attention to esports following the game’s early access exit in July.

Driver Swap Testing Paves Way for Return

In August, the driver swap feature was tested at the 6 Hours of Qatar. The event was a success, according to Motorsport Games.  The trials attracted more than 6,000 sim racers from 1,700 teams, hence establishing the feasibility of multi-driver teams on this new platform.

According to Hood, “We now enter the next phase with trophies and team events for the product experience. As a result, we are ramping up to reintroduce Le Mans Virtual, the world’s biggest racing esports event. The Le Mans Virtual grand final is due to take place next year together with qualifying events in Q4 this year.”

History and Evolution

The Le Mans Virtual Series originated in 2020 in form of real-life motorsport activity due to COVID-19. It brought together sim racing professionals and professional motorsport drivers in a multi-round championship format, quickly gaining popularity.

After the 2023/24 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual, a competition with issues that caused Max Verstappen to complain mid-race, the series was suspended. He is a four-time Formula One world champion.

Qualification Process

The qualification structure for the upcoming Le Mans Virtual Series has not yet been revealed by Motorsport Games. In previous versions, a Le Mans Virtual Cup was held for the best players in which the winners received a place in the 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual which also had the participation of peak performers of sim racing and real-life motorsport.
