It is Possible to Ride Sandworms in Dune: Awakening

Going straight for the sandworm in Dune: Awakening is a good way to get killed. That said, some dedicated players have managed to do the impossible – ride it. While experimentation isn’t a mechanic built into the game, it has proven to be possible with the right abilities and timing.

This feat isn’t something developers officially support. In fact, Funcom allegedly thought of adding sandworm riding but dropped it from the game. Yet studying the movements and attacks of the monsters will allow players to find a way to climb on top of them much like analysing a boss in a challenging action RPG.

One Player’s Successful Attempt

SgtDolphin, a Reddit user, accomplished this with two videos showcasing the actual ride. The way the player constructed this technique is by making use of various in-game tools and abilities like the fast-moving Bindu Sprint. Full Suspensor Belt and Emperor’s Wings.  All these things together provide enough momentum and aerial control so as to land on a worm.

While riders can’t actually steer it or stop themselves from being thrown off with little warning, the achievement is nonetheless a testament to player ingenuity.  As per SgtDolphin, the procedure is very volatile and has a lot of risks.

A Dangerous but Thrilling Challenge

“It gets glitchy at times, especially in the sand that is being displaced,” he says in a post. There have been several deaths while riding the worm, it’s quite a risky sport!”.

Though unstable, this challenge has caught the eye of many in the community, showcasing a part of the game that isn’t technically supported by Mojang.

The Game Continues to Evolve

We are still working on the full review of Dune: Awakening. While the shooting hasn’t been anything to write home about, the reviewer noted that they’ve gone for over 35 hours and there’s still a lot more to go.  There is so much to do in the game, be it unlocking new zones, moving along the main story or trying out PvP features.

A more comprehensive review will be coming soon after the endgame has been experienced.

Growing Community Interest

Even in early stages, Dune: Awakening has gained huge traction. The game hit more than 117,000 players simultaneously on Steam, which is a sign of strong early usage in the survival multiplayer space.

You may have already seen the comprehensive breakdowns that detail the game’s business model and post-launch plans.  Players may learn what’s on the horizon and what current content to look forward to with these.
