‘Grand Theft Employment!’ — Fired Staff Deny Leaking Company Secrets Amid Protests at Take-Two and Rockstar North Offices

Former Rockstar Games employees have staged protests in the UK, challenging their dismissals and demanding reemployment. They assert that their terminations were unjust, denying accusations of leaking confidential information.

Protests Erupt at Rockstar Offices

Today, November 6, saw the Independent Workers Union of Great Britain (IWGB) spearhead protests outside Take-Two House in London and Rockstar’s Edinburgh office. This followed the dismissal of up to 40 employees over alleged leaks of sensitive company information. Protesters expressed their disapproval of Take-Two and Rockstar’s actions through signs and prepared speeches.

Allegations and Union Claims

Reports suggest Rockstar’s decision to fire employees stemmed from alleged “gross misconduct,” not union activity. However, the IWGB argues the firings were a clear case of union suppression. The workers were reportedly involved in a union chat on Discord, motivating their termination according to union representatives.

A recent statement from Take-Two emphasized that action was taken against employees for sharing confidential details in a public forum, firmly denying any connection to unionization efforts. According to the IWGB, only union organizers were present in the private Discord channel alongside Rockstar employees.

Employees affected by the dismissals described the experience as “deeply unfair,” claiming a lack of warning or evidence against them. Their discussions, they argue, were aimed at improving workplace conditions, not harming the company.

Support for Rehiring and Future Implications

Ross Greer, a Scottish politician, voiced his support for the workers on social media, urging Rockstar to reinstate them and address their demands for fair pay and conditions. The protests unfold as Rockstar prepares for the anticipated release of GTA 6 next May. Security has been a focal point following past leaks, prompting the company to enforce stricter workplace policies, which have drawn criticism from employees.

The debates over workers’ rights and corporate policies continue, as Rockstar navigates its future amidst these challenges.
