Fortnite Sidekicks Arrive: Customize Your Pet’s Look Permanently Once

Fortnite is expanding its universe with the introduction of Sidekicks, charming little companions designed to accompany players on their diverse Fortnite adventures. These adorable pets are making waves within the Fortnite community, but not without a fair share of controversy.

Meet Your New Fortnite Companions

Epic Games describes Sidekicks as delightful pals joining your journeys across Battle Royale, Fortnite Save the World, Fortnite Festival, LEGO Fortnite, and other developer-crafted experiences (provided the Island Developer has enabled them). These companions react to the environment and have customizable personalities and physical traits—though these are permanent. Players can, however, change their names and accessories like hats and hoodies at any time. Despite their charm, Sidekicks do not provide any gameplay advantages and are invulnerable in combat.

The first Sidekick, Peels, a cute banana-themed pup, will be available with the release of the Battle Pass on November 1. Additional companions including Bonesy, Spike, and Lil’ Raptor will follow on November 7. Bonesy will be available to those who own the Bonesy Back Bling, and pet lovers can look forward to more options soon after.

Sticker Shock: The Price of Friendship

The excitement of new companions is tempered by the cost associated with them. Reports suggest varying prices, with Lil’ Raptor and Spike priced at 1,200 V-Bucks, while Flopsticks and Cuddle Team Jr. cost 1,500 V-Bucks. This pricing has sparked debate among players, as the Fishstick-themed Sidekick, Flopstick, surpasses the cost of some original skins.

Adding to the controversy, Epic Games has confirmed that the appearance of a Sidekick can be customized only once permanently, though clothing and accessories can be changed freely. This means that altering the primary appearance requires purchasing the Sidekick again, which many players perceive as a costly and restrictive practice.

Wait, so they cost more than skins do AND you have to buy them AGAIN if you want to change their color after buying? What kind of insane pricing is this???

Fortnite’s Future and More Exciting Updates

While the Sidekicks continue to stir debate, Fortnite is gearing up for another exciting addition. Homer, Marge, and the rest of Springfield will join the Fortnite universe on November 1, 2025, in a mini-season that promises to bring the chaos of Kang and Kodos to the map post-Fortnitemares 2025. Stay tuned for more updates, including exact start times and teasers about this crossover event.
