For fans eagerly awaiting a follow-up to Bully, a new development offers a glimmer of hope. Although Rockstar has yet to release a sequel, an enthusiastic group of modders has stepped up to fill the void by creating a comprehensive online mode for the beloved game.
A New Online Playground for Bully Enthusiasts
“IT’S HAPPENING!” exclaimed developer SWEGTA on YouTube. “We finally have an online mode for Bully that allows you and your friends to play minigames, roleplay, compete in racing, fend off against NPCs, and much more!” SWEGTA explained that the team has been working on this project for a long time and is thrilled to finally unveil it to the public.
The online mode is powered by the DSL script loader, a plugin enhancing the modding capabilities of Bully. This innovation enables features that were once deemed impossible, like creating an online mode. An official server is in the works and will be available soon for players to explore.
Exclusive Access and Future Plans
Starting in December, those who support the project on Ko-Fi will gain access to the server, complete with previews, videos, screenshots, and developer commentary. The server blends minigames, free roaming, and role-playing, boasting a robust inventory system where players can earn and spend money on various items such as housing, weapons, and vehicles.
Dan Houser, co-founder of Rockstar Games, recently explained that Bully 2 was shelved due to “bandwidth issues.” Despite fans’ ongoing calls for a sequel, no official follow-up has been announced. However, concepts from the canceled sequel have surfaced in other Rockstar titles like Red Dead Redemption 2.
A Legacy Reimagined
Bully, also known as Canis Canem Edit in some regions, was a humorous action game starring high school outcast Jimmy at an elite private school. The game was praised for its humor and engaging gameplay, earning a reputation as a well-crafted action game.
Enthusiasts have long hoped for a sequel, which was once in progress at Rockstar’s New England studio. Although Bully 2 never came to fruition, its influence persists through its impact on other Rockstar projects.
