Explore EVE Frontier Free Trial: Space Survival from EVE Online Creators

Try out the free trial for EVE Frontier, from the makers of EVE Online, which offers space survival gameplay.

Curious explorers can now take EVE Frontier for a spin at no cost, courtesy of CCP Games! The free trial began on 27 June and continues until 7 July, which is ample time for would-be players of this experimental space survival MMO. Interested players can register at the EVE Frontier site to participate in the space adventure.

This is not simply a re-hash of the old EVE. According to CCP Games, the reason why they came up with Eve Online was that they had developed a chance to experiment with new features too crazy to put in the original Eve Online, which has been around the galaxy for 23 years.

Blockchain Integration with Actual Gaming Purpose

Though EVE Frontier makes use of blockchain technology on the back end, it is not a generic crypto-gaming project. CCP has experience managing digital economies such as those of Eve Online. The game’s modding feature is probably one of the most enticing usages of the blockchain that adds something real to the game instead of just hype.

The game has “server-sde modding at runtime” meaning players can add mods affecting themselves and others in real-time while the game is running. Rules enforced by the blockchain mean you can’t cheat by creating infinite resources or becoming invincible. Modders with early access have already created custom PvP matchmaking and have even devised a 4X strategy simulation within the game.

Ambitious Development Roadmap

The controls and interface of EVE Frontier are similar to that of EVE Online, in which one controls a single unit like a real-time strategy game with no pause. Though it is nevertheless still in development, with several server wipes and significant gameplay changes planned before it reaches version 1.0 which is still years away.

More updates are coming soon with things to hook more players one of which is a cinematic “driving camera” for dogfighting. Try the beta version of Dune: Awakening which is an ongoing project. It is a great opportunity to take a look at the game.

No matter if you’re an EVE old-timer or never played a space survival game before, creating an account via the EVE Frontier website and downloading the client gives access until 7 July. Get ready to enter uncharted waters in one of the most ambitious experiments in gaming.
