From Software has unveiled a detailed 10-minute gameplay overview for Elden Ring Nightreign, their upcoming multiplayer roguelike adventure. The title is scheduled for release on May 30 for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms.
The game revolves around a three-day cycle where a team of three Nightfarers ventures into the world of Limveld with the mission of defeating a powerful Nightlord. Limveld transforms with each return from the hub world, presenting players with fresh challenges, new enemies, and different biomes to discover.
Day and Night Gameplay Cycle
During daylight hours, players have various options to prepare for upcoming battles. They can engage enemies to level up, explore for powerful equipment and weapons, infiltrate enemy strongholds for intelligence, or tackle more formidable foes and dungeon-like areas to unlock special items. Players can choose to travel as a group or separate to cover more territory. Throughout the day, random events may occur or unexpected enemies might interrupt progress.
As darkness falls, the focus shifts to survival. An ever-shrinking ring of fire forces players toward a boss encounter, which on the final night will be the challenging Nightlord. Regardless of whether players succeed against the Nightlord or fail, they can return to the hub world, the Roundtable Hold, carrying relics and currency to enhance their character for subsequent runs.
Character Classes and Customization
Players can select from eight distinct classes, four of which were available in the Nightreign network test – Guardian, Duchess, Recluse, and Wylder. The gameplay trailer provides more details about two additional classes: Ironeye, a ranged archer specialist, and Raider, a powerful melee combatant. Two more Nightfarers appear in the trailer but with limited information. The Executor’s name is briefly shown on the character selection screen, but little else is revealed about this katana-wielding warrior. The final Nightfarer is depicted as a pale woman with a harp, though her abilities and name remain undisclosed.
The game allows for character customization through skins, including some inspired by other From Software titles. The trailer displays Faraam, Solaire, and Leonhard-inspired skins. Additionally, there is a narrative component to the Nightfarers, as players embark on a journey to recover their characters’ lost memories.
Elden Ring Nightreign launches on May 30 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.
