Discovering Hidden Treasures Across Arrakis

During the early hours of Dune: Awakening players are encouraged to avoid the open sands unless it’s absolutely necessary. But after many quests, being in the desert is a lot better, especially for hidden treasure. The game looks attractive, but it does not clarify how exactly you are meant to dig up and find these buried treasures.

One mission, Vermillius Gap, also known as Buried Treasure, asks players to uncover hidden loot using special Fremen tech available after the Second Trial of Aql. Equipped with the Handheld Scanner and Static Compactor, players become the desert’s scavenger looking for treasures—if only they can get used to these tools.

Identifying Locations with the Handheld Scanner

In Dune: Awakening, the buried treasure you find lies beneath the vast open sands of Arrakis. The bottom of the screen will have a sandworm alert meter below that is triggered when you are in the right spot. At this point, players should already have the Handheld Resource Scanner and Static Compactor. If parts go missing, blueprints can be obtained at moisture-sealed Fremen caves.  Fremen caches often contain EMF Generators, typical component of these recipes.

To begin searching the sand, aim the Handheld Scanner at the sand and scan. Diamond symbols mark the anomalies that lie beneath the surface. Please be patient, as often it may take several scans to see.

After you have singled out a target, approach it and place a Static Compactor right on it. After waiting briefly, the device will clear the sand and reveal a box.

What to Expect Inside Treasure Caches

The contents of these containers vary greatly. Some may give you Solaris or gear, while others give you nothing but low-level minerals. The treasure caches can be found in any sandy area so people traveling should always scan the sand to increase their chances of winning.

There is, however, a significant risk involved. A single static compactor creates significant sound much like a sketch. More importantly, the act of scanning also causes noise and disturbance.  The compactor is particularly loud and efficiently invites peril. It is essential to be ready to fall back to stony terrain at speed.

Tips for Locating the Best Treasure Spots

If you have trouble finding treasure, look in the big sand patches between hot spots. Buried loot is likely to be found in the narrow strips of sand surrounding both ends of mountain ranges. However, since less area is available for treasures to spawn, mountain ranges are not widely regarded as a loot location.

Stay away from areas with quicksand or drumsand; they will reduce your chances of success. Safer areas to hunt are the ones where you will find Flour Sand as they are likely to stay open. A helpful visual cue is when white wisps of sand appear to be lifted into the air suggesting the area could contain buried treasures.

Upgrading Your Search with the Sandbike Scanner

If you are serious about treasure hunting, putting a scanner on a sandbike is a good idea. The Handheld Scanner is quite reliable, but having to dismount and search on foot raises the odds of an encounter with a sandworm. With a scanner mounted on it, players can search for treasures while moving.

The Sandbike Scanner is up for research pretty early on in the game. You can find the needed resources for the crafting in the starter regions that is iron ingots and advanced servoks.  Vermillius Gap boasts a rich supply of iron, while Imperial Testing Stations throughout Arrakis serve as sources for Servoks.

Advantages of the Sandbike Scanner

Other than ensuring safety, the Sandbike Scanner is energy efficient. Your Power Pack won’t drain as quickly with the vehicle-mounted Scanner, as it only has a cooldown and doesn’t require extra energy. Thus, it becomes a more efficient and useful tool for long-haul explorations.

Also, scanner improvements can be researched. The improvements, including a longer detection range and shorter cooldown time, will make the treasure hunting experience more seamless and productive. If you are really going to try and uncover the hidden wealth of Arrakis, you should invest in these upgrades.
