Dave Bautista – actor and wrestler – has joined forces with Titan1Studios to develop Steve Lerner’s new project Cat Assassin through his production company Dogbone Entertainment. Beyond simply an animation the project also includes a video game with possible publishing projects in the future. Steve Lerner, a writer behind the highly acclaimed cat-game Stray and Bautista, known for his work in Dune, Blade Runner 2049 and Guardians of the Galaxy, will oversee the project’s creative direction.
What is Cat Assassin?
In the stylised world of neo-noir, we meet Hugh, a contract killer thrust into a twisted web of rival cartels and powerful players who run this jungle. The inhabitants of this strange town are anthropomorphic cats, creating a darkly funny atmosphere. Aiming to blend subtle wit and stealthy action with rich storytelling, this franchise combines a tone and style you don’t see everyday.
Bautista’s Excitement for the Project
Bautista called the collaboration with Titan1Studios rewarding in speaking about his involvement. The game has great world-building and I am excited to show players its unique world. ( Parlance of Youth Reportedly, at a promotional event on the twenty-second of May, Hickey spoke to the game’s very optimistic world-building).
A Stealth Action Game in Development
Titan1Studios is working on a stealth action game that will introduce the Cat Assassin franchise. The gameplay is influenced by several iconic titles. It has the world roaming of Assassin’s Creed, the stealth tactics of Splinter Cell, the feline movement of Stray and the fast-paced fighting of Sifu. The game will be the first of multiple transmedia stories set in a larger universe.
A Cross-Media Narrative Taking Shape
The people making Cat Assassin clearly want to create a full-fledged franchise and have it crossover into games, animation and books. The presence of Bautista and Lerner makes the project intriguing as it moves into development. The game may not have a release date, but it’s clear that Cat Assassin won’t just be any order to game. Rather, it is trying to create a full-on universe of its own, filled with stories and stealth action.
