Copenhagen Wolves Halt CS2 Activities, Roster Available for Transfer

Copenhagen Wolves has made headlines by announcing the suspension of its Counter-Strike 2 operations, placing its entire team on the transfer list. This bold move highlights the challenges smaller esports organizations face in the competitive gaming landscape.

Challenges in the Current CS2 Ecosystem

Reports suggest that the focus on the Valve Regional Standings (VRS) is a significant hurdle for smaller teams like Copenhagen Wolves, making growth difficult without considerable financial support. The organization, revived by an American owner in 2023, has been active in Tier 2 and Tier 3 competitions, earning their latest victory at United21 Season 25 in January 2025.

Founded in 2009, Copenhagen Wolves has a rich history in Counter-Strike, featuring players like Lukas ‘gla1ve’ Rossander, now a coach for 100 Thieves, and Marco ‘Snappi’ Pfeiffer, currently leading Ninjas in Pyjamas.

“This wasn’t an easy decision,” the organization shared on social media, acknowledging the hard work of their roster but citing unsatisfactory results and the challenging CS2 ecosystem. They expressed the intent to re-evaluate and return when conditions improve.

Another Pause in CS2

Copenhagen Wolves is not alone in stepping back from Counter-Strike 2. In February 2025, UK-based Endpoint also paused its operations, attributing its decision to the VRS’s impact on lower-tier teams. As more organizations struggle to impact global standings, there is speculation on whether others will make similar decisions.
