The Baldur’s Gate 3 modding community, while not as extensive as that of Skyrim, is gaining traction with notable projects like the Path to Menzoberranzan mod. Spearheaded by modder Lotrich and supported by over 1,300 patrons, this ambitious undertaking has enlisted a team of more than 130 contributors.
The eagerly awaited first playable Alpha of the Baldur’s Gate 3 mod is anticipated in the first half of 2026, introducing players to the prologue, akin to the Nautiloid of BG3. Progressing updates will gradually unveil new locations and deepen the storyline, heavily influenced by user feedback. The mod aims to deliver immersive interconnected narratives, ensuring a captivating experience with each expansion.
A New Adventure Unfolds
Set in the enthralling world of Forgotten Realms, Path to Menzoberranzan offers a novel standalone adventure. Players will explore the vibrant city of Athkatla and the shadowy depths of the Underdark, ultimately reaching the famed Drow capital. The story, divided into three acts like its predecessor Baldur’s Gate 3, revisits locales from Baldur’s Gate 2: Shadows of Amn and introduces fresh territories. The campaign features a new protagonist and up to eight unique companions, each with intricate personal quests and potential for romance.
Exciting Features Await Players
In the first act, players can shop in Athkatla’s Adventurer Mart and delve into the long-abandoned dungeon of the notorious mage Jon Irenicus. Act II marks the journey towards Menzoberranzan, culminating in Act III’s exploration of the drow city. Players can look forward to fully voiced characters, bespoke concept art, handcrafted designs for Menzoberranzan, engaging side quests, new items, and an original musical score.
