Assassin’s Creed Actor Uncovers Desmond’s Fate via Twitter, Insists He Lives On
In a twist that surprised many fans, Desmond’s fate in the Assassin’s Creed series remains intriguingly uncertain. Voice actor Nolan North, who brought life to this pivotal character, recently shared insights that suggest Desmond might not be as gone as once thought.
The Mystery of Desmond’s Demise
North portrayed Desmond across five games, culminating in a dramatic finale in 2012’s Assassin’s Creed 3. It wasn’t until after the game’s release that North realized Desmond’s apparent death scene was meant to be final, a revelation he stumbled upon while browsing Twitter. “That technically was Desmond’s death scene, and I didn’t know it,” North expressed in an interview with Fall Damage. “I found out on Twitter. ‘Are you upset Desmond’s dead?’ And I’m thinking, what?” Despite the initial shock, it seems Ubisoft has indicated to North that Desmond may not be truly dead.
A New Chapter in Valhalla
The ending of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla leaves little doubt that Desmond’s essence continues in some form. North returned to the franchise as The Reader, a character heavily implied to be Desmond or his consciousness within the Animus. Fans who have journeyed with Desmond since the series’ inception were surprised by his physical body’s demise, but Ubisoft’s developers noted the need to evolve the series for new players.
The Future of Assassin’s Creed
Originally, Desmond’s story was set to span eight or nine games, but creative shifts within the industry led to new interpretations, which North acknowledged were executed successfully. “I was very sad to step away from the role of Desmond,” he shared, “because Assassin’s Creed is one of my favorite stories I’ve ever been part of.” Recent reports suggest Ubisoft might eliminate the modern-day sections from the rumored Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag remake to focus more on historical narratives.
