A user recently highlighted a severe incident involving their Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU, which was damaged while using an ASRock X870 Riptide motherboard. This situation underscores the importance of keeping motherboard firmware up to date to prevent such problems, although even the latest updates might not entirely eliminate the risks.

User Experience with Damaged CPU

A user took to Reddit to share images of their severely burnt Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU and the corresponding ASRock X870 Riptide socket, revealing significant damage. The CPU showed a noticeable bulge, with the socket itself exhibiting discoloration due to the burning. The user disclosed using an outdated BIOS version, 3.06, last updated more than a year ago in August. Although the most recent BIOS version 3.50 is available, and recommended by both AMD and ASRock, the user did not install it, potentially increasing the likelihood of damage.
