ASRock’s Latest BIOS Update: What’s New?
Several motherboard manufacturers are gearing up for the future, and ASRock is leading the charge by launching the stable AGESA BIOS version 1.2.7.1. This update, previously available only in beta, is now rolling out for select motherboards. Although it’s not for the much-anticipated Zen 6 processors, the focus is likely on making way for the Zen 5 lineup, which has been creating a buzz. According to sources, ASRock has decided to skip AGESA 1.2.7.0 entirely, opting instead for a newer version that promises improved “compatibility” with upcoming AMD CPUs. The update applies to a range of B850 chipset motherboards and two new B650 models, the B650M Pro X3D and its WiFi variant. The AGESA 1.2.7.1 update, however, hasn’t yet been extended to the X870 or X670 series, but expectations are high for a release soon, especially for the X870.
Upcoming CPU Support and Expectations
The BIOS version 4.03 supports the listed motherboard models, and its release marks a pivotal step forward. As for the CPUs this update aims to support, speculation centers on the recently hinted Ryzen 9000X3D series, which includes models like the Ryzen 7 9850X3D and the Ryzen 9 9950X3D. Alternatively, it might be paving the way for Zen 5-based APUs such as Krackan Point and Strix Point, which have been mentioned in previous reports. Existing BIOS updates like AGESA 1.2.7.0 reportedly render these APUs compatible with AM5 motherboards, though official confirmations are yet to surface.
Past weeks have seen the rollout of AGESA 1.2.7.0 and 1.2.8.0 across various models. These updates have had their share of initial hiccups, with some users encountering boot issues, but stability seems to be improving now.
