AMD’s FSR ‘Redstone’ AI Upscaling Update Arrives

AMD is making waves with the launch of FSR “Redstone,” a new addition to its suite of ML-powered upscaling solutions. This cutting-edge technology, unfortunately, remains exclusive to the latest generation of graphics cards, such as the Radeon RX 9070 XT and Radeon RX 9060 XT, both acclaimed by tech enthusiasts for their performance.

Ray Regeneration: A New Dimension in Graphics

One of the standout features of this update is Ray Regeneration. According to AMD, this innovation refines noisy ray-traced reflections and shadows before upscaling and interpolation. Reports suggest that when tested in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, the results showcased significantly enhanced lighting effects, especially noticeable in reflective surfaces like pools or glossy tiles. Yet, a comparison video by AMD’s own Jack Huynh showed subtler differences when juxtaposed with native 4K gaming.

Here are a couple of screengrabs from that:

AMD assures that this feature will be integrated into more games in the near future.

FSR Upscaling and Frame Generation: Enhanced Gameplay Experience

Excitingly, FSR Redstone brings enhanced Upscaling and Frame Generation. These features harness generative AI to produce frames between conventional renders, boosting frame rates. The latest Frame Generation update now supports 32 games, as confirmed by multiple sources. More than 200 titles, including big names like Black Myth: Wukong and ARC Raiders, are compatible with general FSR Redstone technology.

The Future of Radiance Caching

Redstone’s update also introduces Radiance Caching, designed to predict light behavior and optimize ray tracing. However, this promising feature has yet to debut in any games, with AMD projecting a rollout in 2026.

If you’re equipped with a compatible GPU, you can access the update through AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 25.12.1, available on AMD’s website. Redstone marks a pivotal advancement in AMD’s graphics technology, poised to redefine the gaming landscape.
